If benefits are denied, you have the right to appeal. Once you’ve been notified of the denial, you will have 60 days to start your appeal. The notice of denial will tell you how to appeal.

We recommend working with a lawyer on your appeal. Most lawyers who do this work do not charge up front or monthly fees; instead, if you win your appeal and get benefits, they will take a percentage of your backpay. There are limits to how much they can charge.
